Hi! My name is Rhys

I am a Certified Athletic Therapist and a member of Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland.

I graduated from TUS Athlone with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic and Rehabilitation Therapy in 2022. Shortly afterwards in February 2023 I set up my clinic in The Warehouse Gym in Knocknacarra. Being an Athletic Therapist, I specialise in musculoskeletal injuries, ranging from general occupational pain to sporting injuries.

I have a keen interest in sporting injuries and rehabilitation along with long term occupational injuries such as chronic neck and back pain. I prefer to take a biopsychosocial approach to my injury treatment and rehabilitation methods which range from hands on manual therapy to exercise prescription.

I feel education is key to recovery, therefore educating you about your injury, why it happened, and the route we need to take to achieve your goals are fundamental aspects of my sessions.

What experience have you and who do you currently work with?

I have been lucky to have already gained a wealth of experience to date having worked with a range of athletes of all levels, most notably South African Sharks Rugby Team on their travels to northern hemisphere and Moycullen GAA on their All Ireland Club Championship run in 2022.

Currently, I am the Head Athletic Therapist for CLG Bhearna while also working with Rahoon-Newcastle GAA and Galwegians RFU. Being based in a gym, I also work with the general active population as well as competitive weightlifters. The state-of-the-art facilities on offer help provide my clients with the best opportunity to achieve their goals during and following injury rehabilitation.

Why become an Athletic Therapist?

Growing up, I’ve always been and avid sportsperson having played Gaelic football, basketball, soccer and athletics. Unfortunately, injuries and trips to the physio were a regular occurrence throughout my teenage years. It was during this time my interest in anatomy and physiology developed. Having played so many different sports at high levels, juggled the commitments of training and education, and having obtained numerous set backs in sport due to injuries, I feel I understand both the physical and mental demands of injury rehabilitation and what’s needed to return to performance.
